Seems like you've got all the tools you need - compassion, honesty, ability to compromise, willingness to communicate, desire to work it out, and love.
One thing to be aware of, humans are always more sensitive to the prospect of loss than of gain. Since it's the primaries which show the greater troubles, make sure there are no insecurities at the root of the problems.
I would just focus on figuring out what each of you feels you need. Once there, then you can work toward finding a way that everyone can get it.
